The Union Hotel in Cienfuegos, Cuba

DON'T STAY HERE!

1. The staff are very unfriendly and unwelcoming.

2. Our room (212) was next door to an extremely loud disco that runs every Friday and Saturday from 11.30 pm to 3.30 am. The music starts again at 8.00am when the club/restaurant opens for breakfast.
As a result of this we got no sleep on our first night, despite wearing earplugs. We asked to change rooms but were unable to as the hotel was full but were given another room for the second night.

3. The wooden shutters around the courtyard are constantly banging in the wind and are very loud. And you can also hear the bells from two churches chiming the hour day and night – their timing is 5 minutes apart and one also chimes every quarter hour!

4. The breakfast offered very little choice and the hot food was extremely greasy and fatty. Myself and another guest got an upset stomach from a meal here – as I’m vegetarian it was probably from the rice or beans.

5. The swimming pool is lovely but closes at 5.00pm

6. The sinks had no plugs and the built-in cupboards were musty as was everything in them so we couldn’t use the spare blankets and pillows.
