Even if you have pre-booked a car you need visit the office a day or two ahead of collection to confirm the booking and arrange a pick-up time.
You will also need to allow at least two hours to collect it because they only ever have one member of staff on duty at a time and several people trying to pick up cars.
Check everything is working before you sign anything - we found a broken brake light and cigarette burns on the back seat which had to be logged.
If your Spanish isn't good - take a phrase book and only one member of staff speaks English.
Once you get out of Havana the roads aren't brilliant but they are relatively empty - but do expect to see cyclists and horses coming towards you in any lane!
