This was my favourite place in CR! (After living there for 6 months) It is on the Caribbean coast and easy to get to by bus from San Jose (a 4/5 hour ride). The Caribbean coast has a completely different vibe than the Pacific, and Puerto Viejo is all about reggae and has a backpacker vibe vs. the more touristy Pacific, there are several inexpensive hostels right on the beach...enjoy!!
