Travel Insurance - your cover may not be what you think it is

Added by - 03/02/2009 10:52

If you're going away for a weekend, make sure your travel insurance includes some kind of cover for "Abandonment of journey due to delay" - most don't. I was supposed to go to Iceland this weekend, but because there was a 2 hour delay on the Stansted Express I missed my flight and then there was no point going on the weekend trip (because of additionaly internal flights booked, etc.). I checked with my insurance policy and I'm covered for NOTHING!! If I'd rebooked the next flight (24 hours later) I'd have been covered for that under Missed Departure (but no connecting flights, etc..) but because I cancelled there was nothing I could do. Fortunately I can claim back taxes and fees from the airline and the Stansted Express ticket. So beware: you may think you're insured, but you're probably not!
