1st Class Rail Travel

It's always worth checking the 1st class fares on British trains when making a booking. On many occassions it's possible to find prices only slightly more if not equal to standard class fares particulalrly when travelling out of commuting hours. A just completed random price and date search for travelling round trip between Manchester and London in March found the following - The cheapest standard fare return = £66.10. However by buying 2 first class singles on the same dates and being slightly more selective on times found the same return journey available in much more comfort and style for £68.00. Furthermore, depending on the train operator (Virgin is one, National Express isn't) a first class ticket also means access into the executive lounges at the station for some complimentary tranquility, tea, biccies and newspapers.
