Cheap & cheerful quality hostels

You don't have to be in the 18 -30 age group to stay in hostels. On a recent trip to New Zealand my husband (44) and I (35) used BBH hostels.

We ordered our membership cards from home at 50 NZ dollars each, which included postage and 20 NZ dollars worth of pre-paid phone calls (the calls lasted our whole trip with internal, UK and calls to Australia).

We stayed in their hostels throughout our 6 week trip touring around both the North and South islands. We got a double room in all the hostels and even some en-suite although most were booked at least a week in advance. But if you're on a tight budget and don't mind sharing dorms are the cheapest option.

We would definately recommend BBH to anyone visiting New Zealand and they will be our first choice for our next trip.

I agree with Travelcat, BBH hostels, X Base and YHA are all very good value, and most have en suite double or twin rooms. My husband (63) and I (65) have just recently returned from NZ and Australia. A good budget way of travelling.
