I really think it would be great for Real Travel to include UK destinations from time to time. There are loads of great places right on our doorstep!

Thanks for your comments - always good to hear readers' ideas for the mag. Including UK trips and destinations is something that we've been considering at Real Travel for a while now... watch this space!

Keep the ideas coming! Hannah

I stayed in the YHA at Pwll Deri and was blown away by the view from the conservatory. They're refurbing at the moment so hope they haven't wrecked the charm of the place.

Hurrah for UK destinations - there is so much on out door step it is amazing! I've recently had some great expereiences of Island Heaven, not quite the South Pacific, more south coast, but go and check out the Isle of Wight. Found some great fossils at Totland Bay the other week.

I'm all for Staycations this year, and recently visited the gorgeous western Highlands of Scotland. Upon seeing the photos, my sis asked if I'd been to Canada for the weekend. Another trip to Scotland coming up in the summer, and I'm hoping for a long weekend away in Cornwall before the year's out.

What UK destinations are on your Staycation list?

If you like your beaches then head for the Gower Peninsula, the other side of Swansea. There are some fantastic spots out there hidden amongst some stunning coastline/

Staycations - great phrase! Why have I never heard of it before? Big fan of 'Keep travel local' - honestly who can say they know all about their local area? It can still be as good a topic at the pub as that trip to somewhere exotic... I was walking over the South Downs the other weekend with my Scouts and they were amazed by Chattri War Memorial up there on the hills. Look it up, it has an intersting story.

Hiya Gareth I'm a keen staycationer, but only picked up on the phrase recently - apparently it's been around since 2003 however, well before credit-crunching became the national phrase. I have great fun travelling around the UK, especially my local Devon and Cornwall, on local days out, and I rarely opt for the traditional such as zoo or museum - there are loads of other opportunities if only people keep their eyes open when out and about.

Granted I live in a gorgeous part of the the UK, but a quick search on your local tourist Information site will throw up some options, and if anyone's looking for a starting point they can do no better than pick up either Adventures on the High Teas (Stuart Maconie's search for Middle England) or his search for the North of England, Pies and Prejudice, both of which are packed with enough historical and practical starting points to get everyone staycationing.

How was the summer Traveldudess? Did you find some great 'staycation' stuff? This Doorstep Traveller ended up back on the Isle of Wight, again hunting for Dinosour remains, with a quite amazing discovery of Iguanadon footprints - amazing for me - everyone else has known about them for hundreds fo years!

Happy Autumn!

Funny you should ask about staycations; we had a fantastic time driving around the Scotish Highlands, getting up close to Highland Coows and lovely hospitality. We stayed in a different B&B each night, ate local produce and Mr TD enjoyed the local whiskeys. I also took advantage of train offers and went to the West End (from Plymouth) for the day to see Jersey Boys, have had the odd day out in Bath and Barnstaple and recently drove up to Manchester for the weekend (yes, still from Plymouth). Gearing up for Europe now with breaks to Norway, Paris, Nice and a ski trip to Austria!
