I lived and worked out there for two years (based in Guangzhou) and aim to go back there as frequently as finances permit. If you have any questions about this country of contrasts, then I'm more than happy to try and help out. Keeps the country fresh in my mind if I do!
I am going in China next October with a small group but have some free time in Shanghai (2 days), Hong Kong (4 days) and Lijiang (1 day). What do you suggest as must sees? In Hong Kong my hotel is in Kowloon and I am already planning to spend a day in Lantau Island.
Thanks for any advice you might have.
NB I am mostly interested in temples, monasteries, historic sights and hiking.
