Can anyone recommend a city break (doesn't need to be a large city) in Europe for approx four days with flights & accommodation (can be hostel) for around £300? Looking for somewhere a bit different to the obvious e.g. Paris, Barcelona etc if possible. Cheers, Emlyn.

A couple of days in Lisbon is always a pleasure - any time of year really. Loads of fantastic, award-winning hostels for budget stays or I highly recommend the Hotel Bairo Alto for a more high-end experience.

Bruges can be a good one, using the ferry as part of the fun depending on your port of departure.

Other place to go to in France are so varied...Of course, Paris is the Typical thing.

I could recommend the Loire Valley....lovely scenery.

From Paris catch the TGV at Montparnasse and you there in 40 minutes (Tours or Vendôme)

You will even get the joy to travel through the french countryside.

Car Hire are good value for money http://www.easycar.fr/

Food and drink trip is always something a winner.

Hope that helps.

I'd recommend Budapest, it's cheap to get to and cheap when you're there, and it's really two beautiful cities for the price of one, divided by the Danube. Wizz Air fly there, and there are plenty of good hostels all over the city. You can walk pretty much everywhere around too. Make sure you go to one of the thermal baths (I went to Szechenyi, lots of different pools, including an outdoor one where people play chess! Also had an aromatherapy massage for just under £7. Bargain) and up to Buda Hills (you can take a chairlift and the views are amazing)

My two favourite cities in Europe have already been mentioned. Lisbon and Budapest. As said, Lisbon has AMAZING hostels, and is one of the cheapest cities in Western Europe. Budapest has lots to keep you entertained, and Hungarian Goulash and thermal baths.

My original suggestion, would be Ljubljana in Slovenia. Which is a cute little city that could fill a day. Then another day could be filled a Lake Bled (nice but touristy) or Lake Slovenj (no tourists when i was there and like a mirror), another day could be filled heading to the small stretch of coastline in Slovenia and visit the beach in summer, or large cave systems. Stay in Hostel Celica, the former Slovenian prison turned funky hostel, its a toruist attraction as well as a fantastic hostel
