Hi, I am planning a trip to Thailand and Laos in the fall and I have a choice between spending two more days in Bangkok or in Vientiane. Which one would you recommend?

Yes, it does depend what you're into. How many days are you planning to stay in Vientiane already? My origins are actually from Laos (but I was born here) and I have been to Vientiane twice. If I am honest, you can do all the toursit sites well within 3 days, my second visit was just visiting family and re-visting what I had seen the first time. If you prefer a tranquil and less touristy atmosphere I'd say stay in Vientiane to relax. However, Bangkok is better if you plan to discover nightlife and there is always a temple, monument, market or other place to visit if you have a few days extra. Vientiane is much smaller that you can do everything in a few days. I spent 6 months working in Bangkok and I still didn't see all the things I wanted to see!
